Psalm 83: The Final Arab – Israeli War

This article is chapter 9 in my book entitled, The FUTURE WAR Prophecies.

Psalm 83 was written about three thousand years ago by Asaph who authored a total of twelve Psalms including Psalm 50 and Psalms 73-83. According to 2 Chronicles 29:30 and 1 Chronicles 25:2, Asaph is identified as a prophet. In fact, his prophecy in Psalm 78 predicted that the Messiah would speak in parables, which was fulfilled by Jesus Christ at His First Coming. Read the related prophetic passages below.

“My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old—” (Psalm 78:1-2, NIV)

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet (Asaph): I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.” (Matthew 13:34-35, NIV; emphasis added)

In Psalm 83 Asaph foretells of the final conflict between the Arabs and the Jews and he beseeches the LORD to empower the Israeli Defense Forces to win a decisive victory. As we take a close look at this prophetic Psalm, we will discover that when it finds final fulfillment, Israel wins the war and the IDF emerges as an exceedingly great army, but on the flip side, the Arab armies are soundly defeated and their slain soldiers are many. Their dead corpses rot throughout the Middle East. Psalm 83:10 points out that these Arab troops become as “refuse on the earth.”
